Did Trump announce new tariffs? Yes. Does it affect us? No. Here’s why you can keep shopping Bordon handmade boots with confidence!

Recently, many of our U.S. customers have asked us about the new tariffs announced by the Trump administration. The headlines caused concern, especially for brands that export products to the U.S. But today, we want to offer a clear and reassuring explanation:

👉 Your Bordon handmade boots remain completely exempt from additional tariffs.

What exactly happened?

On April 2, 2024, President Donald Trump announced a new round of proposed tariffs on imported goods from several countries. The intention is to protect certain U.S. industries by making imported products more expensive. These measures mainly target large-scale commercial imports.

But here’s the good news:
Not all imports are affected, and not all countries or types of shipments fall under this policy.

So why isn’t Bordon handmade boots affected?

Because there’s a very important regulation in place: the De Minimis Rule, part of U.S. customs law.

What is the De Minimis Rule?

It’s a trade provision that allows goods to enter the U.S. duty-free and tax-free, as long as:

  • The total value of the shipment is under $800 USD

  • The goods are for personal use by the final consumer

  • The purchase is not part of a bulk/commercial import

This rule was designed to simplify cross-border e-commerce and benefit consumers who shop directly from international brands.

How does this apply to Bordon?

At Bordon Handmade Boots, we operate under an on-demand model; we make each pair of boots just for you. That means:

  • Your order is personal and unique.

  • The value of each shipment is under $800 USD (in case you purchase two or more pairs, we will split the order and send them separately).

  • We ship directly to you, the final consumer.

✅ That’s why your Bordon Handmade Boots are protected under the De Minimis Rule and NOT subject to these new tariffs.

What does this mean for you?

  • No extra charges on your order

  • The final price you see is the final price you pay

  • No customs delays or extra paperwork

  • You can continue shopping with confidence and peace of mind

Will this change in the future?

Trade policies can always evolve, especially in an election year. But as of now, the De Minimis Rule remains active, and it continues to support small, ethical brands like Bordon Handmade boots that sell directly to customers.

From our workshop in Colombia, we’re proud to continue crafting high-quality, honest, handmade boots  with no hidden costs.
